Crash and Burn...

I went out with one of the guys from next door on Saturday night and got a chick's number. Now, this was especially exciting because she was over the age of twenty and in law school which meant she probably had a few things to talk about and didn't want to go out and get shitcanned all the time. Unfortunately, the dude from next door decided that he wanted to act Irish when talking to said girl and her friend which probably threw them way off. Anyway, thanks to the advice of Holly, I figured I would give it a couple days and then give the girl a call (I forget who it was, but one of you chicks once said that Texting was a pussy way out when you first get a number, so I called) and hilarity ensued. The following is a rough transcript of the conversation:

Lawyer Chick (LC): Hello

Me: Hey, it's jake, I figured I would give you a call and see how your first free week was treating you, how are you?

LC: Oh I'm good, how are you? Did you make it to your concert on Sunday?

Me: I'm Pretty good. No, after we left the bar where we met you I came home and some people were having a party so I drank for a while and didn't make it to the concert. How were your dance lessons?

LC: They were good

(blah, blah, talk about bars and TV)

LC: Yeah, cable sounds like something that you should have at a Bachelor pad

Me: yeah, but it is just more channels to click through to realise that there is shit on TV. Unlike you chicks that love to read and watch some TV.

LC: haha, true. But, you work in IT so you probably like to read and are probably a huge fan of Harry potter and Lord of the Rings.

Me: Oh, that's where you are incredibly wrong. The last book I read was actually about the ten steps that dictators have taken to end democracies around the world like Hitler. How many harry Potter books do you have?

LC: I have them all. They say Harry Potter takes people that don't like to read and makes them like it.

Me: I see. Well, maybe you should lend me the first book then.

LC: Uhhhh, hmmmm, well, if we ever hang out again, maybe

Me: Ouch. I'm sorry, I'm used to people being fun and wanting to hang out again after we first meet. I guess I got a bit ahead of myself there.

LC: Uhhh, ahhhh, yeah....

Me: Yeah, I think that's my cue to go then.

LC: Yeah, and if you get around to Harry Potter, let me know how that goes...

Me: Uhhh, yeah, probably not.

I tell you all of that to lead in to me feeling like the dude from Flight of The Concordes after singing "If You're Into It":

GOUUUUUULEEEET!!

Thank you Mr. Brady hurt for making me almost piss myself at my desk today...

Ask and you shall receive!!

I just posted about Soulja Boy yesterday and then I was reading SI.com's Extra Mustard page just now and saw a link to this video. That's right, Saved by the Bell meets Soulja Boy. Priceless.

Soulja Boy is Jane Fonda meets The Electric Slide

As I was talking to Sara earlier today, she mentioned some people breaking out the Soulja Boy dance at Kirsh's party on Friday. It dawned on me that I had never actually watched the YouTube instructional video for the dance that will be one of the Electric Slides of the next generation (For those of you that haven't been to a wedding lately, EVERYONE in the 20-40 age range knows the Electric Slide). As I was watching the video, I found a number of thing hilarious:

1) They are filming inside a drained swimming pool
2) Until the very end, they do the steps completely without music (except for some whispering to keep him on beat)
3) He has words written ON his sunglasses. Now, I appreciate fashion, but typically if you're high enough that you need sunglasses, you probably don't need anything else in your vision.
4) Do you really need six guys to teach a dance that a seven year old will be doing next week?
5) MySpace.com/Souljaboytellum is the new 281-330-8004 (Mike Jones) it's everywhere
6) I think this dance started as an attempt to keep your pants up in the hood.

That Said, here's the video:

He also posted one a couple days ago with the new dance. Thank god I now know how to Superman AND Supersoak that Ho. My life is complete.

WTF Mate: Netball

I was watching TV today and Womens Netball was on. Now, for those of you that have never heard of Netball, let me give you a quick synopsis.

Take the WNBA

Remove the Following:
Dribbling
Back Board
Free throws
Three Point Line
Defense as we know it
Broads that would love to eat Rittgers with a side of Jurgs

Add The Following:
Outfits that the Williams sisters would wear on the tennis court (Skirt, BRIGHT Colors, funky designs)
Volleyball Lines
Shooting without a hand in your face

They basically catch the ball and have to stop and only take one step. It reminds of of ultimate Frisbee minus hippies. I'm sure the hoop is lower as well because it looks like most of these broads can grab rim. Also, they are playing in running shoes, not basketball shoes. I'm just waiting for the first person to roll an ankle and the commentators to wonder why.

Xavier Rudd and Jeremy Fisher

Aside from my experience with the Ocean, I got to see Xavier Rudd while I was in Byron. Holly gave an accurate description with calling him the Australian Ben Harper. The dude is unreal to see in concert. Not only does he sing some awesome songs, but while singing he is typically playing a didgeridu while drimming or playing the guitar. Mark described the concert experience to him being able to make techno through a Didg mixed with other music. The concert was so awesome Friday (Thanks to the BSU Girls) that Mark and I went again on Saturday night with his friends. Xavier Rudd is playing in Chicago on January 22nd at the Vic.

The guy that opened for him was named Jeremy Fisher. He is a guitar/harmonica player from Canadia that rocks the curly Jew fro. Check him out as well.

I have some music form both of them that I have been sending to people so shoot me an e-mail and let me know if you want a few tracks.

Ocean 1, Jake 0

This weekend Mark and I went down to Byron Bay to meet up with two of his friends from Sydney (Damo and Chrissy) and the Ball State girls from Surfer's Paradise. I was in a bit of a funk last week and was hoping that finally getting out of Brisbane and down to Byron (Which everyone told me was amazing) would change things around and help me realize why all of you that gave me advice about being down here always said, "And I never wanted to come home."

In addition to two nights of amazing music with Xavier Rudd, SaturDAY was amazing. After waking up in a hostel dorm room that reminded me of the cold dorm of the Delt house after four hours of listening to people snore and pretending to sleep, Mark woke me up abnd told me we were going to meet Damo and Chrissy for breakky (Breakfast) and then going to the beach to surf. After pulling the trigger at breakfast, I was ready to attempt this Surfing thing.

We setup our towels at the bottom of the cliff the picture was taken from at Tallow Beach and hit the water. Mark let me use the bigger of his two boards, which is 7'10", but thin. Additionally, the waves were breaking really rapidly and were over my head, so trying to line the board up,m get on it, paddle and stand up was about as easy as taking a weekend night off from drinking in Chicago: Not gonna happen.

After we got done surfing and roasting in the sun, we went into town and looked at long boards. When I asked the lady that was working what kind of board she would recommend me looking at and told her that we were surfing Tallow Beach all morning, she started laughing and joking with Mark about how wrong it was to take me to surf there for the first time...thanks dude.

Theme of the weekend: "Too much weight, not enough displacement"
Surfing Score: Ocean 1, Jake 0
